The phrase "the stars" refers to the environment of outer space and all its component phenomena. A slightly narrower use denotes is its use as a collective phrase for the mass of visible stars in the night sky at any one time.
In Astronist and Astronic discourses, "the stars" embodies a specific understanding of the astronomical world as either the literal abode of the spirits of the death (called the Overworld) or as at least involved in the affairs of death and the afterlife (a principle called astrothanasia). Hence, the phrase is used interchangeably for all these definitions; its use as a phrase is most often found either in colloquial dialogue or in literary and poetic works.
