Henry Phillip Moon (March 29, 1819 – November 14, 1894) was an English Mormon pioneer and diarist who is classified by the Astronist Institution as one of the notable ancestors of Cometan. With his second cousin, Lydia Moon, Henry sailed to America on Saturday 6th June 1840 on the ship Britannia with Mormon leaders Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball. This voyage from Liverpool to New York was the first organised emigrant company of Latter-day Saints. Upon arriving to America, Henry married his second cousin Lydia on 30th January 1841 in Pine, Clinton County, Pennsylvania.
The book The Family of Henry Moon Mormon Pioneer, 1819 – 1894 was compiled by Henry’s son Richard Nephi Moon and his two daughters Maureen Moon LaPray and Louise Moon Thiebaud. This book is described as a “typewritten copy of a diary kept from 1 January to 1 July 1860 in which Moon gives a brief account of his activities and life in Salt Lake City, Utah.”
A further book titled Horse Stone House, written by Harold K. Moon (likely descendant of Henry’s) was published in 2007. This book seems to be a fictionalised version of the life of Lydia Moon (link).
